Brentford manager Thomas Frank has hit out at James Maddison following the Tottenham midfielder's controversial celebration during Spurs' 3-2 win over the Bees. Maddison, who scored Tottenham's second goal, imitated a dart-throwing motion towards the Brentford fans, sparking outrage from Frank.
The Danish coach labelled the celebration as "disrespectful" and unnecessary, suggesting it lacked class in what was otherwise a fiercely competitive Premier League encounter.
Frank's Fury Over Maddison's Actions
Speaking after the match, Frank did not hold back in his criticism of Maddison. "I think it's disrespectful to celebrate like that in front of our fans," he said. "There's a way to enjoy your goal, but that crossed the line."
The incident occurred after Maddison slotted home to put Tottenham 2-1 up, turning the game in their favour after Brentford had taken an early lead through Neal Maupay.
Spurs Edge Five-Goal Thriller
In a match filled with drama, Tottenham eventually emerged victorious thanks to Brennan Johnson's late winner. However, the post-match discussion centred on Maddison's antics rather than the result.
Frank acknowledged Tottenham's quality but insisted his side deserved more from the game. "We showed great character and caused them problems throughout," he added. "The fine margins went against us today."
Maddison Yet to Respond
As of now, Maddison has not publicly addressed Frank's comments. The England international has been in fine form this season, but this latest incident threatens to overshadow his on-field contributions.
Whether the Football Association will take any action remains to be seen, but the debate over player celebrations and respect in the game is sure to continue.
