Formby Man Behind Gordon Barcelona Move Wins Major Award
Formby Man Behind Gordon Barca Move Wins Award

Adam Dugdale, a 39-year-old from Formby, has been honoured for his role in one of the summer's biggest football transfers. He received the Next Generation Award at the Global Football Industry Awards in London on November 5, presented by Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher.

Dugdale represents Anthony Gordon and helped orchestrate the winger's move to Barcelona. The 25-year-old has since become a regular in the starting XI, most recently featuring in the side's 3-0 win over Aston Villa in the Champions League.

Award Recognition and Judging Panel

The judging panel included England assistant manager Anthony Barry and Connor Coady, who announced his retirement on the day of the ceremony. The award was handed to Dugdale by former Arsenal and Everton forward Theo Walcott, who praised his impact on the industry.

Walcott said: "He is clearly someone making a real impression in football. His ambition and ability to build relationships with top talent mark him out as an exciting young figure in the industry." He added: "He's incredibly deserving of this award. It was a great night celebrating the very best in the football industry."

Gordon's Barcelona Start

The awards took place at London's Nobu Hotel, with the ceremony presented by Carragher, Walcott, and Sky Sports' Hayley McQueen. Ahead of the Champions League win against Villa, Gordon spoke about adapting to life at the Spanish giants.

Gordon said: "The challenge of joining Barcelona is different to what I've had before because I was fighting relegation for two or three years at Everton, which was tough. At Newcastle, we were fighting for maybe Champions League and to push up the table, and now I'm fighting with Barca for every trophy."

He added: "I've had three very different challenges as far as the teams that I played for. I really enjoyed all three because they come with different things to help you as a person, help you grow. I think to be competing on every front for every trophy, is definitely the most enjoyable. People think it's more pressure, but it's actually better pressure than the fight for relegation."

Future Development

Gordon has already built strong chemistry with Barcelona attackers Raphinha and Lamine Yamal, but believes there is more to come. He said: "I have started quite well, considering it's a new country for me. It's a big change, a new team. It's been a massive change for me, my family, and everything that comes with that, but like I said, moving country is the biggest part."

He concluded: "So I've started well, but like I've said numerous times since I've been here, I can do a lot more. I think it will take some time for me to really grow, feel settled, and then when this happens, I think you'll see the very best of me, which you definitely haven't seen so far. I've only been here two and a half months, so I haven't had long to get used to it. I've adapted quite well, but can still do much more given more time and definitely will do so."
