RJ Mitte cause of death revealed after Breaking Bad star died

The cause of death for Breaking Bad star RJ Mitte has been confirmed following his unexpected passing last month at the age of 34.

Mitte, known for his role as Walter "Flynn" White Jr in the hit series, died at his home in Brownsville, Texas, on October 12. His representative confirmed the news in a statement, saying: "It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of beloved actor, philanthropist, and passionate disability rights advocate RJ Mitte."

The statement added: "At this time, we ask people to respect the privacy of RJ Mitte's family and close ones," without disclosing the cause of death at that point.

Inquest Details Revealed

Page Six now reports that Mitte died by hanging on October 12 and was pronounced dead at 1.32pm. The publication, which has seen the inquest document, also reported that an autopsy and toxicology testing were requested, although the results were not included in the records obtained by the outlet.

His mother, Dyna, previously described discovering his body when she brought him food. "I called him at 11. He didn't answer," she told NBC News, noting that her son often slept until noon so she had not been worried. "I picked up lunch and went to take it to him, and that's when I discovered him."

She said she believes it was a "spur of the moment" decision and that he did not leave a note.

Career and Advocacy

Mitte rose to fame playing Bryan Cranston's son in Breaking Bad, which ran for five seasons from 2008 to 2013 and won multiple Emmy awards. He used his platform to advocate for disability rights, drawing on his own experience of living with cerebral palsy, and served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy.

Bryan Cranston, who played his father Walter White, remembered Mitte as his "sweet son". "I met him when he was only 14 years old, when he was cast as Walter White Jr., a part he played with such joy and enthusiasm," he wrote on Instagram alongside a photograph of the two.

Cranston said he watched Mitte grow into a "really fine actor", who channelled his own experience to "be a vocal advocate for performers with disabilities".
