Despite a summer spending spree that exceeded £200 million, Nottingham Forest are preparing to dive back into the January transfer window to strengthen their squad. The club is specifically seeking to bolster its defence and midfield as manager Sean Dyche looks to build on recent momentum.
Dyche's Impact and Transfer Strategy
The decision comes on the heels of a spectacular 3-0 victory away at Liverpool last Saturday, a result that propelled Forest out of the Premier League's relegation zone. This triumph marks the most significant achievement yet under Sean Dyche, who is the club's third manager this season following the departures of Nuno Espirito Santo and Ange Postecoglou.
Dyche is now beginning to imprint his style on the team, with consecutive wins against Leeds and Liverpool boosting morale. According to Daily Mail Sport, the Forest hierarchy is set to back their manager in the upcoming window, focusing on reinforcing the spine of the team.
Identifying Key Targets
One of the names on Forest's radar is Brighton midfielder Jack Hinshelwood. The 20-year-old has made just four Premier League appearances this season, but he made a decisive impact in his most recent outing, scoring a late winner in Brighton's 2-1 victory over Brentford last Saturday after coming on as a substitute.
Hinshelwood's versatility is seen as a major asset, as he is capable of playing not only in midfield but also at right-back. However, midfield is not the only area of concern. The club is also actively searching for a new centre-back to provide senior cover for Nikola Milenkovic and the highly-rated Murillo.
Murillo, in particular, has attracted interest from numerous elite clubs, but a departure before the season's end is considered unlikely. The Brazilian defender himself expressed a renewed sense of belief after the win at Anfield, stating: ‘The winning spirit we had last season is coming back. I am so happy, feeling very good and it's not just me, I think it is everyone.’
He credited the team's improved form to their work ethic, adding: ‘Because of the work we have done in the week, maybe it has changed our minds and it has given us confidence to play well, given confidence to the fans and staff and everyone.’
