Former Barcelona midfielder Carles Perez has been hospitalised in Greece after being bitten on the genitals by a dog. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning in Thermi, a suburb of Thessaloniki, while Perez was walking his dog.
According to reports, Perez's dog was attacked by another animal, and when he attempted to separate them, he sustained a deep gash to his genitals requiring six stitches. He was taken to a private hospital in Panorama, another suburb of Thessaloniki.
Greek club Aris, where Perez is on loan from Celta Vigo, confirmed on Wednesday that the 27-year-old has developed a soft tissue infection from the bite. As a result, he has been ruled out of Thursday's UEFA Conference League qualifier against Araz-Nakhchivan.
Aris manager Marinos Ouzounidis revealed that Perez was due to start the match. 'Carles would have been in the starting line-up,' Ouzounidis said at a press conference. 'This incident happened but we can't dwell on it any longer. My mind is working on alternative solutions.'
Perez made his Barcelona first-team debut in 2019 and has also played for Roma, Celta, and Getafe. He joined Aris on a season-long loan earlier this month.
