Five strikers Man Utd could target in January after Sesko blow

Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko has been ruled out of action until January, adding to the club's woes in a difficult season. The 20-time English champions have won just two of their last 12 matches across all competitions and are winless in their last eight.

One of those matches was a League Cup defeat to Brighton, which was also Sesko's last outing for United. The striker is likely to miss at least another 13 matches before returning in 2027 from a shin problem.

January targets to bolster the attack

Express Sport has identified five potential strikers United could target in the January transfer window to strengthen their attack while Sesko struggles to stay fit.

Victor Osimhen has been linked with a move to Old Trafford in the past, but prising the Nigerian away from Turkey would require serious investment, with a cost of upwards of £80million, if not over £100m.

More cost-friendly options

Igor Matanovic was a rumoured late target for United before the summer window closed, but a move did not materialise. He has continued scoring for Freiburg and could be a more cost-friendly option.

Charalampos Kostoulas has started the season well at Brighton, and United's history of signing top performers from other Premier League teams could make him a target, though he would not come cheap.

Troy Parrott has impressed at Real Betis after moving to Spain in the summer. There is talk of a £70m release clause, though that fee still seems steep for the Irishman.

Jean-Philippe Mateta has been unhappy with his situation at Crystal Palace and was linked with Juventus in the summer. He turns 30 next June but could compete with Sesko for at least two or three seasons as a short-term option.
