Katie Price told her Instagram followers that she had 'devastating news' on the evening of October 28, without providing details, but urged her supporters to 'cherish every moment' with loved ones.
In a post to her Instagram story, Katie wrote: "Had devastating news tonight... love health and family is so important cherish every moment with loved ones and build memories." She ended with: "And no it's not my mum".
Mum Amy's health battle
Katie's mum Amy, 74, is battling a rare lung condition called Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF), which causes the lungs to become scarred and makes breathing more difficult. Earlier this month, Katie spoke about her mum's failing health, claiming she had just "days" but that she could not visit as she had a cold.
Speaking on her podcast with sister Sophie, Katie said the family was taking it "day by day" as they did not know what would happen with their mum's health. She said: "At the moment, we're playing it day by day with Mum. We're all juggling, depends how my mum is each day to what we do. Obviously if Mum takes a turn, Mum's more important than anything."
Family support and hospital visits
The siblings confirmed they had been spending a lot of time with their mum in hospital of late. Katie said the whole family had been "trying hard" to take care of their mum but that Sophie got extra "brownie points" as she had been going to the hospital more.
Amy was diagnosed with IPF in 2017, and at the time doctors warned that she had less than five years left to live. The NHS says there is currently no cure, but treatments are available to help manage the symptoms.
Katie is also dealing with the end of her relationship with Lee Andrews. She married the Dubai businessman in January, but shortly after he went to prison, and she recently declared the marriage was over. It is now believed that Katie will link up again with Sky following her Nothing To Hide documentary and will appear in a new programme alongside others associated with Lee.
