Match of the Day unveils new presenting team as Chapman leads Premier League opener

Match of the Day is set to return this Saturday with a new presenting line-up, marking the first show since Gary Lineker's departure from the BBC. Mark Chapman will lead the coverage for the opening weekend of the 2025-26 Premier League season, supported by pundits Wayne Rooney and Alan Shearer.

The BBC confirmed earlier this year that Chapman, Gabby Logan and Kelly Cates would share hosting duties for the flagship highlights programme. Chapman, who has presented the Sunday spin-off since 2013, takes the helm for the season's first episode.

Wayne Rooney and Alan Shearer, both former England strikers, are set to provide analysis. Rooney has moved into punditry after his managerial spell at Plymouth Argyle ended in December, while Shearer has been a regular pundit on the show.

Kelly Cates will make her Match of the Day debut this Wednesday, covering highlights of Tottenham Hotspur's UEFA Super Cup clash with Paris Saint-Germain. Cates continues her role with Sky Sports, where she has worked since 2016.

Gary Lineker, the BBC's highest-paid presenter and host of the show since 1999, left after apologising for a social media post he said was "best for all concerned" if he departed completely. His final appearance was the last show of the previous season in May.
