Fenerbahce Chief Reveals 'Unacceptable' Reason for Sacking Jose Mourinho

Fenerbahce president Ali Koc has disclosed the real reason behind the dismissal of legendary manager Jose Mourinho, citing his 'unacceptable' style of football as the primary cause. Mourinho, 62, was sacked last week after just over a year in charge of the Turkish giants, following a Champions League play-off defeat to Benfica.

Speaking to Turkish outlet Hurriyet, Koc explained that while the chemistry with Mourinho was excellent, the team's playing style did not meet expectations. 'We needed to play more dominant football, scoring 99 goals and earning 99 points is in our DNA,' Koc said. 'Getting knocked out by Benfica wasn't the issue. But how we went out was unacceptable. It felt like the same dull football from last year would continue.'

Mourinho, who guided Fenerbahce to a second-place finish last season, was frequently embroiled in controversy, criticising officiating standards and the club's transfer business. His sacking has sparked speculation about a return to the Premier League, with Nottingham Forest and West Ham among the clubs linked.

Former Germany midfielder Didi Hamann commented on Mourinho's potential Premier League comeback, stating: 'He hasn't managed in the Premier League for a while now. He's had a few stops and things haven't really worked out as he expected. But for one or two seasons, I can still see him performing magic.' Hamann added that he 'cannot see' Mourinho moving to Scottish giants Rangers.
