Farke Fumes as Leeds Endure Controversial Two Minutes at Palace
Leeds United manager Daniel Farke expressed his frustration, claiming the "whole world" seemed to be against his side during a tumultuous two-minute spell in their 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace. The match, which took place on Sunday 15 March 2026, was overshadowed by a missed penalty and a highly contentious sending-off just before half-time.
Penalty Miss and Red Card Spark Chaos
The drama unfolded in the 43rd minute when Palace captain Will Hughes handled a corner from Anton Stach, conceding a penalty. Leeds striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin stepped up but sent his spot-kick wide of the left-hand post, missing a golden opportunity to break the deadlock. Moments later, full-back Gabriel Gudmundsson was controversially shown a second yellow card by referee Tom Bramall for a foul on Ismail Sarr, reducing Leeds to ten men.
Farke was incensed by the decision, arguing that Gudmundsson's challenge was not even close to warranting a booking. "It was doubtful if it was a foul. It was not even close to a yellow card," he stated. "There was no pace in the tackle, in the duel. It was not a tactical foul." The manager also highlighted that Bramall appeared to have forgotten Gudmundsson was already on a yellow card, only brandishing the red after being reminded.
Refereeing Confusion and Managerial Frustration
The officiating confusion did not end there. Leeds defender Jaka Bijol, already booked for a needless handball, escaped a second yellow for a body check on Sarr. Instead, Bramall booked both managers, Farke and Palace's Oliver Glasner, for their emotional reactions from the bench. "Why was I booked? That's a good question," Farke remarked, noting the fourth official cited both benches' heightened emotions.
Despite the setbacks, Farke praised his players' resilience. "I have to give lots of compliments to my players. It was a day that proved why I would trust my players with my life," he said. He believed Leeds could have won if they had kept eleven players on the pitch, but under the circumstances, he viewed the point as priceless.
Palace's Late Disappointment and Managerial Views
Palace thought they had snatched victory late on when Jefferson Lerma bundled the ball home, but Brennan Johnson was flagged offside, denying them the win. Glasner expressed mixed feelings about the result. "We are not completely satisfied with today's result," he said, acknowledging the first half was not the prettiest football but praising his team's physicality. However, he felt the second half became nervous as Palace struggled to capitalise on their numerical advantage.
Farke reflected on the emotional rollercoaster, emphasising the unity within the club. "It's so difficult, in two minutes you feel the whole world is against you. Today is proof that when this club is united we can overcome all adversity," he concluded, highlighting the team's ability to withstand pressure in a challenging away fixture.
