Sir Nick Faldo has revealed that a driver belonging to the great Ben Hogan was passed around during Rory McIlroy's Masters Champions Dinner on Tuesday. The three-time Masters winner attended the exclusive event at Augusta National, where McIlroy hosted the proud owners of Green Jackets.
Faldo told the Mirror that it was a 'Fab' evening and the food was 'all brilliant'. He added that the guests got their hands on a driver owned by nine-time major champion Hogan, which was presented to the room by two-time Masters champion Ben Crenshaw.
In a video posted on Instagram, Faldo said: 'I know you want to all know about champion's dinner last night, it was very nice, food was great. It was a really cool moment when Rory, Jack and Gary were siphoned off for a photograph secretly, you know they're the only Grand Slam winners here, so that's a very cool moment for Rory. He spoke well, of course, that was all good.'
McIlroy's menu included tuna carpaccio, wagyu fillet mignon and sticky toffee pudding, with a selection of fine wine from the Augusta National cellar. Jordan Spieth, the 2015 champion, praised the dinner, saying: 'The food was incredible. It's one of the best dinners that we've had on the meal. His choices were fantastic.'
Masters chairman Fred Ridley also attended, stating: 'Rory was a wonderful host at last night's Masters Club Dinner. That evening always is a special occasion, but especially when we celebrate a first-time champion. I should say that, like his golf game, Rory's menu and wine selection were world-class.'
