The Football Association has confirmed that the FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Manchester City will take place at Wembley on Saturday 16 April, despite fan criticism and calls to relocate the fixture due to planned rail works.
Engineering works over the bank holiday weekend will severely limit train services from the North West to London, prompting demands from supporters and Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to move the game to a venue such as Old Trafford. However, the FA has opted to keep the match in London but will provide 100 free return buses from Anfield and the Etihad Stadium for up to 5,000 fans from each club.
An FA statement said: 'The FA recognises the significant challenges being faced by supporters with train services severely limited. Therefore, The FA strongly advise affected supporters to avoid travelling by train and seek alternative arrangements. The FA is pleased to announce a limited number of free return bus services will be provided.'
The other semi-final, between London clubs Chelsea and Crystal Palace, will take place on Sunday 17 April at Wembley.
