Leeds United secured their place in the FA Cup fifth round after a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Birmingham City at St Andrew's, with the match ending 1-1 after extra time.
The Championship side dominated large parts of the contest and created numerous chances, but it was Leeds who struck first before Birmingham levelled. Despite Birmingham's pressure, they could not find a winner in normal or extra time, setting up a tense shootout.
Leeds goalkeeper Lucas Perri proved the hero, saving a spot-kick from Birmingham's Doyle to help his side edge the shootout 4-2. Perri told TNT Sports: "It was an incredible fight from the team. We had a very difficult game, it’s always difficult to play against a team like Birmingham, so congratulations to the whole team for the fight and we got to the next round."
Birmingham will rue their missed opportunities. Osman spurned a clear chance at the back post, while Calvert-Lewin forced a strong save from Allsop in extra time. Leeds also came close through Ampadu, who fired over, and Bogle, who was denied by Wagner's timely intervention.
The victory means Leeds advance to the fifth round, while Birmingham are left to reflect on a spirited display that ultimately fell short in the cruellest of fashions.
