Marcus Rashford has reportedly given the green light for a potential move to Real Madrid, where he could reunite with former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho. The 28-year-old's comments from 2021 have resurfaced after his loan stint at Barcelona appears to have ended.
Rashford spent the 2025-26 season on loan at Barcelona, scoring 14 goals and providing 14 assists as the club won La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup. However, Barcelona opted not to make the move permanent, instead signing Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United for £70m. Reports suggest Rashford's defensive contributions and high wages were factors in the decision.
Jose Mourinho is expected to take charge of Real Madrid this summer for a second spell, which could make a move to the Bernabeu more appealing for Rashford. The forward previously said of playing in Spain: 'I would never say no. Other than United? I'm a big fan of Real Madrid and Barcelona, because they've always had great players and played attractive football.'
Rashford's future at Manchester United remains uncertain. He has not played for the club since December 2024 and was loaned to Aston Villa in January 2025 before moving to Barcelona. Other clubs reportedly interested include Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, and Bayern Munich, though a significant wage reduction may be required for a permanent exit.
