Former NFL cornerback Richard Sherman was arrested early Saturday on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to the Washington State Patrol. Trooper Jordan Hazzard-Thomas reported noticing “the odor of intoxicants” and that Sherman’s eyes appeared “bloodshot and watery” during a traffic stop.
Sherman was stopped for travelling at 79mph in a 60mph zone at approximately 2am local time, according to a first appearance document obtained by CNN. He is expected to appear in court on Monday, the King County prosecuting attorney’s office confirmed.
Sherman, a three-time All-Pro, played 11 seasons in the NFL, winning a Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks in 2013. He was named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s All-Decade Team for the 2010s. After his playing career, he worked as a football analyst, including for Amazon’s Thursday Night Football.
This is not Sherman’s first legal issue. In 2022, he pleaded guilty to two misdemeanour charges related to a drunken driving and domestic disturbance incident the previous year, and admitted to a speeding infraction in a construction zone.
