Ex-Arsenal star: Grealish at crossroads after Everton omission

Jack Grealish finds himself “at a crossroads” but Everton can still profit from a return to form from him, according to former England international Alan Smith.

David Moyes said he did not know whether Grealish will be available for Coventry City’s visit to Hill Dickinson Stadium on Friday after the Blues won back-to-back games over Newcastle United without him.

Disciplinary Omission

Everton announced before their 3-1 Carabao Cup victory against the Magpies last Thursday that Grealish had been omitted for a club disciplinary matter, with it understood that the on-loan Manchester City player had failed to turn up for a scheduled training session.

Grealish remained out for the 1-0 success at St James’ Park on Monday night, and after the game Moyes was asked about the matter.

The Blues boss said: “He’s just not available yet.”

Quizzed as to whether the 31-year-old would be back for when Frank Lampard’s newly promoted team come to the banks of the Mersey for Everton’s next fixture, Moyes said: “I don’t know yet.”

Former International's View

Alan Smith, who won 13 caps and scored two goals for the Three Lions while also lifting a brace of League championships with Arsenal plus the FA Cup, League Cup and European Cup-Winners’ Cup, netting 115 goals in 351 games, told Best Betting Sites: “You never know what’s going on behind the scenes with these instances, so you don’t want to jump to conclusions.

“There are stories of him not reporting for training and if that’s the case, he needs to be sanctioned. He’s at a crossroads, Jack.

“Where does he go from here? Does he knuckle down?

“Can he knuckle down? Who knows what’s going on in his head?

“He might be struggling mentally, I don’t know. But he’s a fine talent, so you just hope that he can get back on the straight and narrow, because Everton would really profit from that.”
