David Moyes has admitted Jack Grealish may require surgery after the Everton loanee was diagnosed with a stress fracture in his foot. The 30-year-old has seen a specialist, with the club awaiting the full extent of the injury ahead of a potential operation.
The issue came to light after Everton's win at Aston Villa on Sunday, in which Grealish played the full match and produced an influential display. It has since emerged that the England international had been feeling discomfort in his foot for several weeks.
"It's not for me to give the timescales - we've not got it yet from the doctors - but he has a stress fracture in his foot, that's all I can tell you," Moyes said on Friday. "It's a big blow because he's been hugely important to us since the start of the season, he's played a big part in the team."
The Everton manager revealed that Grealish picked up a calf injury during the match at Villa Park, but discussions with medical staff brought up the foot problem. "He came in on Monday for treatment. We got it checked and then he went to see the surgeon to get it checked again," Moyes added.
Moyes expressed sympathy for the 30-year-old, who has been supported by Everton supporters since his arrival. "It's a real pity for the boy. He's been back at it, enjoying it and doing what he is good at," he said. "He has been supported brilliantly by the supporters at Everton. They think so much of him and it's just disappointing he's going to have some time off."
