Hearts Women manager Eva Olid is set to leave the club at the end of the season, despite leading the team to the brink of their first Scottish Women's Premier League title. The Spaniard's contract, extended in 2023, will not be renewed by mutual agreement, with the club opting not to trigger a one-year extension clause.
Olid took over a Hearts side that finished bottom of the table five years ago, avoiding relegation only due to league expansion. She has transformed the Edinburgh club into title contenders, with Hearts currently top of the league, one point ahead of Rangers and two clear of Glasgow City with five games remaining. A crucial match against Rangers looms on Friday.
Before joining Hearts, Olid worked with Houston Dynamo's under-19s men's team and women's side, and previously coached at Sant Cugat's boys' academy and Sabadell. She has emphasised the need to teach basic technical skills to women's players that are often taken for granted in the men's game.
Hearts have become semi-professional under Olid's tenure, and the team has recorded historic victories over top-three sides, including a first-ever win over Rangers in April 2024. Despite the impending departure, Olid's legacy at the club is secure, having built a squad capable of challenging for the title.
