England have secured their place in the World Cup quarter-final with a dramatic 3-2 victory over co-hosts Mexico. The win sets up a meeting with Norway on Saturday, 11 July at 10pm for a place in the semi-finals.
Bellingham Brace Seals Win
After a cagey opening half-hour, England took the lead when Jude Bellingham headed in Bukayo Saka's cross. Just two minutes later, Bellingham scored his second after Anthony Gordon won the ball high up the pitch, putting England 2-0 ahead.
Mexico halved the deficit before half-time when Julian Quinones scored from a set-piece. England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford made crucial saves to ensure his side went into the break ahead.
Second-Half Drama
The second half took a dramatic turn when right-back Jarrel Quansah was shown a straight red card after a VAR review for a dangerous challenge. Despite being down to 10 men, England extended their lead when Harry Kane converted a penalty after Anthony Gordon was fouled in the box, making it 3-1.
Mexico again reduced the deficit when they were awarded a penalty following another VAR review. Raul Jimenez beat Pickford to make it 3-2, setting up a tense finale.
Quarter-Final Opponents
England will face Norway in the quarter-final after Erling Haaland's brace helped Norway beat five-time champions Brazil 2-1 in their round of 16 match. The game will be played on Saturday, 11 July at 10pm.
