England's Women's Euro 2025 campaign has sparked a new trend with a finger-clicking celebration that went viral during Sunday's 6-1 victory over Wales. The gesture, performed by substitute players who Sarina Wiegman calls her 'finishers', emerged from a group chat dedicated to sharing photos of the now-iconic moment.
Chloe Kelly revealed the origins of the celebration, explaining that the substitutes developed it on the bench before the match. "It's great, we have a little group of us, a group chat - 'the finishers' as you call it and 'the positive clicks' we call it," she said. "We said, if one of us comes on and scores, let's do that as our celebration."
The celebration was brought to life when substitutes Beth Mead and Aggie Beever-Jones combined for goals against Wales, each assisting the other. Kelly credited defender Maya Le Tissier with starting the group chat after some players lacked photos of the celebration. "She made the group chat," Kelly said.
Kelly praised the squad's depth, highlighting the importance of the 'finishers' group in supporting starters and being ready when called upon. "The level of training is really high in the gym and we're just grafting," she added.
As England prepare for their knockout match against Sweden on Thursday, Kelly reflected on her penalty shoot-out experience, having scored decisive spot-kicks in the 2023 Finalissima and the World Cup later that year. "Preparing for the tournament you know you always have to prepare in all areas," she said.
