Thomas Tuchel will ring the changes for England’s match against the Czech Republic on Tuesday night, with Alex Scott suffering an injury.
Tuchel felt the four days between last Tuesday’s 2-0 win in Prague and Saturday’s 7-0 victory over Croatia gave the squad just the right amount of recovery time without the risk of fatigue.
But the Three Lions head coach is now expected to rest some key players as the Czechs arrive at Wembley for England’s fourth and final match of this extended three-week international break.
Scott withdraws with quad injury
There will be no Scott, who dazzled on his first senior England start in Rijeka but has now withdrawn from the squad with a quad injury that could reportedly sideline him for up to two months.
Ahead of the Croatia game, left-back Nico O’Reilly returned to Manchester City for assessment on an injury picked up against Spain.
While O’Reilly was not initially replaced, Tuchel has since called up his City team-mate Rico Lewis, who had been with Lee Carsley’s England Under-21s earlier in the international window. Lewis has not played for England at senior level since November 2024 but can fill in at full-back on either flank.
Kane set for milestone
Captain Harry Kane is expected to play on Tuesday in some capacity - either from the start or as a substitute - and will draw level with Peter Shilton to become England’s joint most-capped men’s player of all time on 125 appearances.
Other senior players could be rested or, at least, be spared from a full 90 minutes at Wembley. Jordan Pickford will retain his place in goal, while Trent Alexander-Arnold is expected to come in at right-back and Myles Lewis-Skelly should replace Scott in midfield.
Declan Rice, Cole Palmer, Marcus Rashford, Kobbie Mainoo and Tino Livramento all dropped out of the England squad ahead of their first game against Spain.
