What England need to qualify for Nations League quarter-final
England Nations League quarter-final qualification scenarios

England can guarantee a top-two finish in Nations League A, Group 3 with victory over the Czech Republic at Wembley, as long as Croatia fail to beat Spain in the other game on Tuesday night.

Thomas Tuchel's side are three points clear of Croatia in the group and can qualify for the Nations League knockout stage with two games to spare.

What England need to qualify

A win against the Czech Republic will secure England's place in the quarter-finals if Croatia do not beat Spain. A draw would give Croatia a maximum points total of 10 from their final two games, and nine were they to lose to the reigning world and European champions.

A win for Croatia would keep them three points behind England, setting up a winner-take-all showdown at Wembley between the two nations on November 12.

Who England could face in the quarter-finals

The four group winners will face the four runners-up in a two-legged quarter-final. The group winners will be seeded and have home advantage in the second leg. Teams from the same group cannot be paired together, so England and Spain would be kept apart.

If England finish second in Group 3, their potential opponents would be France, Netherlands or Portugal. Topping the group would set up a possible quarter-final with Italy, Greece or Denmark.

When is the draw?

The draw for the 2026/27 Nations League quarter-finals will take place after the league phase concludes in November, with ties scheduled for March 2027.

England started the campaign with a loss to Spain despite leading 2-1, but have since beaten the Czechs in Prague and thrashed Croatia 7-0.
