England Name Uncapped Teen Spinner for Women's T20 World Cup

England have unveiled their 15-player squad for the upcoming Women's T20 World Cup, with uncapped 18-year-old spinner Tilly Corteen-Coleman earning a surprise call-up. The tournament, set to be hosted on home soil this summer, presents a golden opportunity for Charlotte Edwards' side to claim glory in front of their own fans.

Young Talent and Experience Blend

Nat Sciver-Brunt will captain the squad, which strikes a balance between youthful exuberance and seasoned experience. Corteen-Coleman is one of three left-arm spin options, joining Sophie Ecclestone and Linsey Smith. Notably, leg-spinner Sarah Glenn has been omitted as she continues her recovery from a broken finger.

The pace attack features Lauren Filer and Issy Wong, both set to make their T20 World Cup debuts. All-rounder Dani Gibson has also earned her place after impressive performances for Somerset at the start of the domestic season.

Notable Omissions

There is no room for experienced opener Tammy Beaumont, who captained England in their most recent T20I series against India last summer. Rising star Davina Perrin, who shone in The Hundred, also misses out.

Head coach Charlotte Edwards, who led England to victory in the 2009 T20 World Cup on home soil, acknowledged the difficulty of selection. "The waiting and wondering is over, we have named our ICC Women's T20 World Cup squad and there is no doubt that it has been incredibly tough to get to these 15 names," she said.

"This is the hardest set of selection meetings I have been a part of because the pool of players to choose from is so strong and so many talented players have put their hand up to be a part of the squad, which is exactly what we want. That is the nature of world-class sport, and it is a privilege we don't take lightly to be able to make these difficult decisions."

World Cup Campaign

England will begin their World Cup campaign against Sri Lanka at Edgbaston on Friday, 12 June. They are drawn in Group B alongside Ireland, New Zealand, Scotland, and the West Indies. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals, with the final scheduled for Lord's on 5 July.

Before the tournament, England will host New Zealand and India in white-ball series. Kira Chathli and Jodi Grewcock have received their first call-ups for the ODI leg against New Zealand, while Em Arlott, Mahika Gaur, and Emma Lamb are also included. Sophia Dunkley, Charlie Dean, and Danni Wyatt-Hodge will miss that series to manage their workloads.
