Emilio Gay endured a challenging start to his England Test career as he made his debut against New Zealand at Lord's on Thursday. The opening batter was handed his maiden Test cap and was immediately thrust into action after New Zealand won the toss and opted to field first.
A Brief but Eventful Innings
Gay faced the first ball of his Test career with confidence, smashing a full toss from Kyle Jamieson to the boundary for four. However, his innings proved short-lived. After adding one more boundary, Gay was dismissed for just 8 runs when he edged a delivery from Jamieson to slip, where Daryl Mitchell completed the catch.
Rain Interrupts Play
Shortly after Gay's dismissal, rain forced a break in play with England at 24-1 in their first innings. The interruption added to the challenging conditions for the home side.
Despite the early setback, Gay's debut marks a significant milestone in his career, and he will look to learn from the experience as England continue their Test series against New Zealand.
