Unai Emery has confirmed that Aston Villa's owners, Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens, will provide funds for the January transfer window. The new head coach, who signed a contract until 2027, received assurances from the club's hierarchy to strengthen the squad when the window reopens in 58 days.
Speaking to BirminghamLive, Emery said: "We're going to have more than a month-and-a-half before the transfer market. I think now the focus is to try and improve performances and to give players confidence to get better with their skills and capacity." He added that he and Sawiris discussed the possibility of improving the squad in the transfer market, but stressed the importance of first believing in the current players.
Aston Villa have already been linked with two players Emery previously worked with at Villarreal: forward Nicolas Jackson and 21-year-old winger Alex Baena. At his first press conference, Emery revealed he has watched all 13 of Villa's Premier League matches this season to assess the squad.
Emery emphasised the need for demanding standards: "Professionally, we will do each step individually and strongly. We'll be demanding and we'll get better in time. That will help achieve our dreams. I know it's not easy and, when you're trying to do something important, you need to rise to the level and demand."
