Dundee await Bobby Wales injury verdict as Rangers clash looms

Dundee striker Bobby Wales has been sent to see a second specialist in a bid to get a definitive diagnosis on his ankle injury. The on-loan forward has been sidelined with the issue he suffered just before scoring for Scotland under-21s in Bulgaria.

Wales has returned to parent club Swansea City for their medical team to assess him. He has already seen one specialist and is now awaiting the results of a second opinion before a rehabilitation plan is decided.

Pressley Confirms Wait

Dundee head coach Steven Pressley confirmed: “I don't think we'll hear anything on Bobby Wales until later this week. He's still down at Swansea.”

Fellow striker Joe Westley is also out with an ankle injury suffered in training. He is not expected to make the weekend trip to St Mirren.

Pressley added: “No update on Joe Westley. He’ll continue to push. I’d imagine this weekend will be too soon. But you never know with Joe Westley.”

Closed-Doors Rangers Game

Dundee will play a closed-doors game against Rangers at their training ground on Tuesday. It will allow fringe and returning players to top up their match sharpness.

Pressley admitted: “We have a bounce game on Tuesday to get some game time for the likes of Charlie Reilly, Ryan Finnigan, Joe Wright, Brad Halliday, all the ones who need additional game time.

“So that'll be very beneficial. Charlie had only trained a couple of days since coming back. With Ryan Finnigan Friday was the first session that he got through. In my mind, they were there for an emergency situation but ideally I don't want to take risks with them.”

Jones Impresses

Dundee’s first team continues to fly high in the Premiership. They took a weekend point from the Rangers clash, with Callum Jones the goal hero after scoring to make it 2-2.

Pressley thinks Jones is now starting to find his feet in a dark blue shirt. He claimed: “I think game-by-game he's improved. I still think there's a lot more to come from him. I've chatted to him on a number of occasions about certain things and how we're going to improve. He's really taken things on board. He's really determined to improve.

“And he's really embraced everything that we've asked of him. But I think just with time and rhythm, we're seeing him taking steps forward.

“So we're really pleased at that. It was a big void to fill, the Finnigan void, because I think that Ryan's performed so well in the early part of the season. But I think that Calum's shown a lot of maturity and a good determination around him.

“And, like I said, the encouraging thing is I still think there's a lot more to come from him. The type of performance he gave against Rangers should give him a lot of confidence.”
