Manchester United are in advanced negotiations with Borussia Dortmund over a deal to sign England winger Jadon Sancho for an initial £90m (€100m), a fee that would set a new transfer record for an English player. The 20-year-old, who left Manchester City for the Bundesliga in 2017, is believed to be open to returning to the Premier League after a spectacular season in which he scored 17 league goals and provided 16 assists.
While no agreement has yet been reached, Dortmund are understood to be willing to accept the fee in instalments over the next two or three seasons, with a further €20m potentially due in performance-related add-ons. Sancho, who has 11 senior caps for England, is expected to sign a five-year contract at Old Trafford if the clubs can finalise the terms.
The purchase would mark the second time United have broken the English transfer record under manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær, following last summer's £85m signing of Harry Maguire from Leicester City. Securing Champions League qualification by finishing third in the Premier League is understood to have been a key factor in Sancho's desire to return to England after three years in Germany.
Sancho began his career at Watford before moving to City at age 14, but never made a senior appearance for Pep Guardiola's side. He is expected to compete with Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, and Mason Greenwood for a place in Solskjær's attack. Meanwhile, Alexis Sánchez is set to join Inter Milan on a permanent deal after the Italian club agreed to match his wages for one year of a three-year contract.
