Manchester City Star Jeremy Doku Delivers Arsenal Warning
Manchester City winger Jeremy Doku has issued a stark warning to Arsenal ahead of Sunday's Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium. The Belgian international believes the high-stakes showdown can serve as a 'good cure' for City's recent slump in form.
City's Recent Struggles
Doku's comments come after Manchester City suffered a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday, which followed last week's 3-0 loss in Spain. This latest setback means Pep Guardiola's side have now failed to win four of their last five matches across all competitions.
The timing could hardly be worse as City prepare to face an Arsenal team that extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table to nine points over the weekend. The Gunners' impressive form stands in stark contrast to City's recent struggles.
Doku's Optimistic Outlook
Despite the challenging circumstances, the 23-year-old winger remains optimistic about his team's prospects. 'It's a good cure,' Doku said of the upcoming final. 'We'll do everything to win that game and to win a trophy. The next four games are very important. We now have to recover for Sunday and go game by game.'
Doku emphasized that there is still plenty to play for this season, with Manchester City competing in three different competitions. 'There's still a lot to play for,' he added. 'We're still in three competitions, three trophies to win. If we do that it's still going to be a great season.'
Learning from Champions League Exit
The Belgian international acknowledged disappointment over the Champions League elimination but stressed the importance of learning from the experience. 'Of course we're disappointed with the Champions League. It's always a nice trophy to have. But there are some lessons to take out of these two games [against Real]. We have to recover well and we're looking forward to the next games that we have.'
Doku took particular pride in City's performance against Real Madrid, especially after playing most of the match with ten men following Bernardo Silva's first-half red card for handball. 'Playing against a big team like that, 10 against 11, and still performing like we did, still putting them into trouble, not every team can do that,' he argued.
Upcoming Fixture Crunch
The Carabao Cup final marks the beginning of a crucial period for Manchester City:
- Carabao Cup final against Arsenal on Sunday
- FA Cup quarter-final against Liverpool on April 4
- Premier League clash with Chelsea
- Potential title decider against Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium
Doku believes that if City can maintain the level of performance they showed against Real Madrid, they will trouble many opponents. 'I feel like if we play like that every game you'll put many teams in trouble. Some good things to take out of this game to the next one.'
Despite the recent setbacks, the young winger insists his team can look each other in the eye with pride after their European exit. 'Unfortunately we didn't win but we can look each other in the eye and be proud of each other. We played well. We played well 11 against 11 and 10 against 11. We created chances.'
As Manchester City prepare for their season-defining run of matches, Doku's warning to Arsenal suggests the Premier League champions are far from finished in their pursuit of silverware this campaign.
