Dean Windass breaks silence as son Josh linked with shock Wrexham exit
Dean Windass reacts to son Josh's potential Wrexham departure

Dean Windass has broken his silence with a cryptic social media post after reports emerged that his son, key Wrexham forward Josh Windass, could be set for a surprise January departure.

Social Media Post Fuels Speculation

On Tuesday, Hull City legend Dean Windass took to X, formerly Twitter, to share a screenshot of an article discussing the potential transfer of his son away from the Racecourse Ground. He accompanied the post with nothing but a shrug emoji and a football emoji, a move that instantly sent fans into a frenzy of speculation.

The rumours suggest Josh Windass, who only signed a three-year contract with Wrexham in July, is attracting significant interest from his former club, Rangers. The 31-year-old attacker has been instrumental for the Red Dragons this season, scoring six goals and providing three assists as they look to establish themselves in the Championship.

Rangers Reunion on the Cards?

The Ibrox side are reportedly considering a move to bring Windass back to Glasgow, where he spent two seasons between 2016 and 2018, netting 19 times in 73 appearances. A major pull for the player could be a reunion with current Rangers manager Danny Röhl, under whom he thrived at Sheffield Wednesday.

Speaking in April 2024, Josh Windass praised Röhl's methods, stating: "He's probably the best coach I've ever worked with - his detail and his understanding." Last season under the German at Wednesday, Windass scored an impressive 13 Championship goals.

Dean Windass has previously spoken emotionally about watching his son play for Rangers. "When I went there... I had tears in my eyes," he said. "Watching my son walking out for one of the biggest clubs in the country... I was so proud."

Wrexham Determined to Keep Star Man

Despite the links, any move is fraught with complications. According to reports, Wrexham have already rejected an initial loan approach from Rangers. The club's hierarchy are said to be determined to retain their influential forward, who is under contract until 2028.

Furthermore, a permanent transfer may be financially challenging for Rangers. It is understood Josh Windass's current salary at Wrexham could be a significant hurdle, even though rumours suggest the player himself might be open to discussing a return to Scotland.

The situation remains fluid as the January transfer window approaches, with Dean Windass's enigmatic post adding further intrigue to a developing story that could significantly impact Wrexham's Championship campaign.
