The 31-year-old lineman participated in 69 NFL games throughout his career, earning 16 starts since entering the league as an undrafted free agent with the Dallas Cowboys in 2017. Remarkably, 66 of Skipper's 69 career games came while wearing the Honolulu blue and silver of Detroit, establishing him as a reliable presence on the Lions' offensive line across multiple seasons.

In his most recent campaign under head coach Dan Campbell, Skipper appeared in 12 games during a season that ultimately saw the Lions fall short of playoff qualification. The veteran lineman took to Instagram on Thursday to share his decision with fans and followers, writing: '24 years of putting on pads and a helmet every fall. This year I'll trade that out to pursue a career on the other side in coaching.'
He continued with heartfelt reflection: 'The memories and experiences that the NFL has brought me and my family are hard to put into words. Thankful for every person that has been apart of my journey. It's time for me to "report" as retired. (Sorry I had to do it one last time!)'

Skipper's retirement announcement comes with immediate plans for his next professional chapter. His coaching career will commence at the upcoming East-West Shrine Bowl, where top collegiate prospects showcase their talents before NFL scouts and decision-makers.
During this annual event, the recently retired offensive lineman will work directly with players in his former position group, as well as tight ends, sharing the technical knowledge and professional insights gained throughout his NFL tenure.

The Arkansas product achieved particular notoriety among Lions supporters during the 2023 season when he delivered an impassioned response to officials after having a touchdown controversially disallowed against his former team, the Dallas Cowboys.
