It was a similarly frustrating start for tonight's hosts, though, as they hosted Croatia and fell to a narrow 2-1 defeat. The veteran Luka Modric rolled back the years there, scoring the opener in Slaven Bilic's first match of his second spell in charge of his nation.
The victor in this match stands to end the day as high as second in the group as we reach the halfway stage of this extended international break.
