Crystal Palace booked their place in the Europa Conference League final with a commanding 3-1 win over Shakhtar Donetsk in the second leg of their semi-final tie at Selhurst Park. The Premier League side, who held a 2-1 advantage from the first leg in Ukraine, produced a dominant display to seal a 5-2 aggregate victory.
First Half Dominance
The Eagles started brightly and took the lead in the 18th minute through Eberechi Eze, who curled a stunning effort into the top corner from outside the box. Palace doubled their advantage just before half-time when Michael Olise's free-kick was headed home by Joachim Andersen, leaving Shakhtar with a mountain to climb.
Shakhtar Fight Back
The Ukrainian side showed resilience after the break and pulled a goal back in the 57th minute through Danylo Sikan, who poked home from close range after a corner. However, any hopes of a comeback were short-lived as Palace restored their two-goal lead on the night just ten minutes later. Odsonne Edouard capitalised on a defensive error to slot home and make it 3-1 on the night.
Comfortable Finish
Palace controlled the remainder of the match, with goalkeeper Sam Johnstone making a couple of smart saves to deny Shakhtar a second goal. The victory ensures Palace will now face either Fiorentina or Club Brugge in the final, with the Italian side holding a 3-2 lead from the first leg.
Manager Oliver Glasner praised his team's performance, saying: "We were excellent from start to finish. The players showed great character and quality, and we fully deserve to be in the final." Palace will now look to cap off a memorable season by lifting the trophy in Athens on May 29.
