Snooker enthusiasts were left bewildered after a World Seniors Snooker Championship match at the Crucible was temporarily halted due to an unexplained issue with the table. The incident occurred on the second day of the tournament in Sheffield, shortly after the World Championship concluded.
Match Postponed and Rescheduled
World Seniors Snooker announced that the match between Matthew Stevens and Dominic Dale was postponed and rescheduled for later in the day. The decision came after several unusual incidents, including a moment when Stevens potted a red ball into a corner pocket, causing the white ball to leap into the air. The 48-year-old player stared in disbelief at the table, raising both arms and his cue.
In an official statement, organisers said: "Due to a fault with Table Two, there will be no further play on it this evening. Matthew Stevens and Dominic Dale will conclude their match on Table One following Ali Carter v Roger Farebrother. Alfie Burden and Igor Figueiredo will play at 9pm BST in a private area of the practice room. Table Two will be replaced overnight."
As a result, the match between Stevens and Dale was moved to the arena's other table, with Stevens securing a 4-2 victory. Meanwhile, defending champion Alfie Burden faced Brazilian Igor Figueiredo behind closed doors in the practice room, where Figueiredo won 4-0 to advance to the quarter-finals against Robert Milkins.
