Rangers have confirmed the appointment of Philippe Clement as their new manager, following the departure of Michael Beale earlier this month. The 49-year-old takes over a side sitting joint-second in the Scottish Premiership, seven points behind leaders and defending champions Celtic.
Clement expressed his honour at the appointment, stating: 'I am honoured to have been appointed as the new manager of Rangers and I’d like to thank the board for giving me this opportunity. I am hugely excited by this chance to achieve success at one of Europe’s most iconic clubs across four competitions in what remains of this season and beyond.' He added that he looks forward to meeting the players and supporters at the upcoming home match against Hibernian.
Rangers chairman John Bennett outlined the recruitment process, led by CEO James Bisgrove, board members, and former manager Graeme Souness, which involved interviewing several high-calibre candidates. Bennett said: 'Philippe proved to be the outstanding candidate across all the key criteria, reinforced by his track record of winning titles.'
Clement brings a wealth of experience, having won the Belgian Pro League as both a player and manager with Genk and Club Brugge, and gained Champions League experience. He also had a stint at Monaco in Ligue 1, leaving in June after less than 18 months in charge.
