Chelsea defeated Tottenham 2-1 at Stamford Bridge, leaving Tottenham's Premier League survival to be decided on the final day of the season. Goals from Enzo Fernández and Andrey Santos put Chelsea ahead, before Richarlison pulled one back for Spurs in the 74th minute. Despite a late rally, Tottenham could not find an equaliser, meaning they must now face Everton at home on Sunday needing at least a point to avoid relegation.
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou expressed frustration at the result, stating: 'We created the first chance to score with Tel, it was a big save from Sanchez, then we conceded one great goal... We lost a stupid goal to concede the second goal, but before the second goal we created a big, big chance. I think we played a very good game. We lost.' He remained positive about the final match, adding: 'We have to prepare the next game. We play in our stadium, with our fans. We have to get a result... I’m positive, because today we played a good game.'
Postecoglou also explained his late substitution decisions, noting that James Maddison could only play 20-25 minutes due to fitness concerns. 'The ball was inside of the pitch. But you know the physical condition of James Maddison, he’s not available to play more than 20, 25 minutes and I was waiting to spend two or three minutes more and to make this change,' he said.
The result keeps West Ham's survival hopes alive, while Tottenham's fate now hinges on their final home game against Everton. Chelsea's victory also confirmed Arsenal as Premier League champions for the first time in 22 years, following Manchester City's failure to win earlier in the day.
