Chelsea are willing to sell 11 players before the transfer window closes at the end of the month, with combined fees potentially approaching £500m. The Blues are simultaneously continuing to strengthen their squad, having most recently secured Jordan Henderson's signature as their eighth summer signing.
Busy summer under Xabi Alonso
It has proved an exceptionally busy period for new manager Xabi Alonso. Chelsea concluded a headline-grabbing £117m deal for Morgan Rogers before swiftly adding Crystal Palace centre-back Maxence Lacroix. During the opening days of August, Danny Welbeck's arrival marked a shift away from the club's typical youth-oriented transfer strategy, a trend further underscored by Henderson's signing. Versatile Argentina international Valentin Barco also bolsters squad options following his move from Strasbourg. Geovany Quenda, Marco Palestra and Emmanuel Emegha round off their new signings.
Chelsea's recruitment activity may assist new boss Alonso in revitalising the side following last season's underwhelming 10th-placed finish, yet it leaves them with an oversized squad.
Defenders and midfielders on the block
The Athletic suggests that as many as 11 Chelsea players could complete permanent departures before deadline day. The Blues must trim their centre-back numbers after Lacroix's arrival, with Alonso acknowledging he would prefer just "four or five" choices in his squad. Trevoh Chalobah is edging towards a £31m transfer to Como, though he is not the sole defender who may exit Stamford Bridge.
Axel Disasi, who spent the latter half of last season on loan at West Ham United, can reportedly depart for £25m, while Benoit Badiashile carries a £30m valuation. Additionally, full-back Malo Gusto is not deemed essential but will command a £75m price tag.
In the middle of the park, Enzo Fernandez has been touted with a departure from the club. Nevertheless, Chelsea would require £120m for their prized asset, who arrived from Benfica for £106m in January 2023. Much like Fernandez and Gusto, the Blues value Pedro Neto's impact, though the winger is understood not to be untouchable. The Portugal international has previously been associated with a £70m exit from the Blues.
Forwards face uncertain futures
In the forward line, Welbeck's arrival at Chelsea is expected to prompt the club to offload several strikers. Liam Delap is regarded among the most probable departures following his disappointing maiden campaign, but the club would still seek to recoup the £30m they paid Ipswich Town last summer. Nicolas Jackson holds a £65m valuation and has drawn attention from Aston Villa after spending last season on loan at Bayern Munich. Young forward Marc Guiu also carries a £25m asking price having made 13 appearances for Chelsea last term.
Meanwhile, Emmanuel Emegha, who is valued at £20m by Transfermarkt, is believed to already face an uncertain future at the club after his switch from Strasbourg. Likewise, Chelsea will pursue a permanent departure for David Datro Fofana, who is valued at £3m.
This takes the combined potential fees for the 11 Chelsea players to £494m, with certain individuals potentially commanding higher sums.
