Chelsea footballer Wesley Fofana has been branded a 'habitual offender' by magistrates after being punished for his tenth driving offence. The defender, who failed to attend court, was fined a total of £1,062 and received three penalty points on his already suspended licence.
Latest Speeding Incident in Luxury Car
The latest incident occurred in the early hours of 27 February 2024 in Twickenham, West London. Fofana was caught by an automatic camera driving his £300,000 white Rolls Royce Cullinan at 54mph in a 40mph zone on the A316 Chertsey Road at 1:30am.
Prosecutor Kari Williamson informed the court that Fofana's driving record shows he is currently disqualified until 13 May 2027 for a previous dangerous driving offence and holds a non-UK licence.
A History of Reckless Driving
Fofana's lawyer, Stephen Oldham, stated that this offence happened just weeks after the player was last in court. In May of last year, Fofana was disqualified as a 'totter'—a driver who accumulates 12 or more penalty points—and received a two-year ban with 47 penalty points.
Oldham also revealed that Fofana, who earns over £200,000 a week and lives in a £3.5 million seven-bedroom mansion near Chelsea's Cobham training ground, will have to retake his driving test.
Court's Stern Rebuke and Past Incidents
Magistrate Alan Jefferson did not mince words, stating: "It's obvious that he's a habitual offender." The fine was calculated based on Fofana's high income and an early guilty plea, comprising a £666 penalty, a £266 surcharge, and £130 in costs.
This is merely the latest chapter in a troubling pattern. Last year, Fofana was involved in an incident where he ran over former EastEnders actor Dean Gaffney, leaving him with a broken collarbone.
Subsequently, in October, he pleaded guilty to dangerous driving after shocking footage showed him overtaking on the hard shoulder of a Surrey motorway in a white Lamborghini Urus. For that, he received 300 hours of community service, costs, and an 18-month driving ban.
His previous disqualification in May 2024 came with a £7,569 fine and 38 points for eight separate speeding offences.
On the pitch, the £70 million signing from Leicester City has been plagued by injuries, limiting his appearances for Chelsea to just a handful of games this season.
