Chelsea youngster Jesse Derry was taken off on a stretcher following a sickening clash of heads during a Premier League match against Nottingham Forest. The 18-year-old winger, making his first top-flight start on Monday, collided with Forest defender Zach Abbott near the end of the first half.
Referee Anthony Taylor immediately pointed to the penalty spot, while medical staff rushed onto the pitch. Abbott was quickly able to get to his feet and was substituted as a concussion precaution, making way for Neco Williams. However, Derry remained motionless on the turf, prompting urgent medical attention.
The Chelsea winger was eventually replaced by Liam Delap. The extent of Derry's injury is not yet known, but the incident cast a somber mood over the match.
This is a developing story and more details will follow as they become available.
