Chelsea new third kit: Retro 90s-inspired strip debuts at Everton

Chelsea's first team will wear their new third kit, inspired by a cult classic of the nineties, for the first time when they visit Everton on Saturday.

The Blues will run out in all white at the Hill Dickinson Stadium as they debut the new Nike strip. The retro look is inspired by the away strip used between 1992 and 1994, worn by the likes of Glen Hoddle, Dennis Wise and Tony Cascarino. That original kit was produced by Umbro.

Design details and retro crest

The new white shirt features a blue trim on the sleeves and neckline, with a red pinstripe completing the look. It was paired with red shorts 30 years ago, but those have been traded in for an all-white look this season. The women's teams will sport blue shorts.

The club's lion crest has also been traded in for its retro counterpart, the less modern version used between 1986 and 2005, which features a lion sitting atop the block letters 'CFC'. There is one last change, as the old Amiga Commodore sponsor has been replaced by the American stablecoin 'USDC by Circle'.

First senior outing

The kit has only been seen in action once so far this season, with Chelsea's Under-21s giving it a run out in the EFL Trophy against Wycombe Wanderers. They fell to a 2-1 defeat there.

Saturday, though, will see the new look debut for a senior team as Chelsea look to kick off a winning run at Everton in their first match since trouncing Bournemouth 5-1 last time out. A statement released when the kit was unveiled claimed it would "celebrate more than 30 years since both Nike and the Blues emerged as global football powerhouses."
