A week after Chelsea's dramatic Premier League victory over Liverpool, the two clubs met again at Stamford Bridge for a charity match featuring legends from both sides. In a reversal of fortunes, Liverpool Legends secured a 4-3 win thanks to a late goal from Ryan Babel, completing a double over their Chelsea counterparts after a 2-0 victory at Anfield in March.
The match, which raised funds for the Chelsea Foundation, Chelsea Players' Trust and LFC Foundation, saw a star-studded line-up including John Terry, Eden Hazard, Pepe Reina and Yossi Benayoun. Hazard, who spent seven trophy-laden seasons at Chelsea, admitted he 'misses' playing at Stamford Bridge and received a standing ovation when substituted in the second half.
Despite dominating much of the 80-minute contest, Chelsea could not find a winner. Substitute Joe Cole and Diego Costa threatened, but it was Liverpool who struck decisively. With minutes remaining, a swift counter-attack saw Jermaine Pennant feed Babel, who cut inside and fired into the near corner to seal the victory.
The result means Liverpool Legends have now won both charity fixtures against Chelsea this year, adding to their earlier triumph at Anfield. The match was played in a sunny atmosphere, with proceeds supporting community initiatives through the respective foundations.
