Paris Saint-Germain took a commanding 2-0 lead in their Champions League quarter-final first leg against Liverpool at the Parc des Princes, with Désiré Doué's deflected strike and a superb second from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia securing a deserved win for the European holders.
The hosts were dominant throughout, with Ousmane Dembélé missing a hat-trick of openings, including a late effort that struck the outside of the post. Nuno Mendes and Doué also squandered chances as Liverpool struggled to contain the French champions.
Liverpool had a penalty appeal turned down in stoppage time when Ibrahima Konaté appeared to push Nuno Mendes in the area, but the decision was not overturned. The visitors made a quadruple substitution as they chased the game, with Mohamed Salah remaining an unused substitute.
Despite being outclassed, Liverpool remain hopeful of a recovery at Anfield next Tuesday, having scored 24 goals in their last seven home matches. They face Fulham in the Premier League before the second leg.
