Celtic vs Rangers Prediction: Scottish Premiership Betting Tips & Odds
Follow our football betting tips as Celtic and Rangers meet in the Old Firm derby.
Celtic vs Rangers tips: Score draw - 18/5 BetVictor. Youssef Chermiti to score - 39/20 BetMGM.
Celtic know they will have to beat Rangers in the Old Firm derby on Sunday if they are to keep alive their hopes of winning the Scottish Premier League. By the time they take to the pitch at Ibrox, they could trail leaders Hearts by six points, and they need Derek McInnes' side to slip up if they are to secure their 56th league title.
The title race was a three-way tie until recently when Rangers slipped off the pace with back-to-back defeats to Motherwell and leaders Hearts in their last two matches. They are now seven points off the top but four behind Celtic and know a win this weekend could help them at least steal second place.
To see both Old Firm sides so close to the top of the league is a far cry from their positions earlier in the season, when both were forced to change their managers. Rangers acted first after a shocking start to the season when they won just five of their first 17 games under new manager Russell Martin. He was sacked at the beginning of October, with Rangers eighth in the Premiership and trailing leaders Hearts by 11 points.
Later the same month, Brendan Rodgers resigned as manager of Celtic with the club eight points behind Hearts, and comments from Dermot Desmond made you wonder how much of the decision was down to Rodgers. Martin O'Neill took temporary charge, winning seven of their eight games, before Wilfried Nancy took over at the start of December after impressing at Columbus Crew. He lost six of his opening eight games in charge and was sacked a month later with the club six points off Hearts. O'Neill returned and they have lost just three of their 23 games since, going into the game on the back of five straight defeats in all competitions.
Celtic vs Rangers Betting: Too Close to Call
This will be the sixth meeting between the two sides, and the results have been scarily similar. Three games have ended all square, including the last one in the Scottish FA Cup which finished goalless, with Celtic winning on penalties. Each team has won one match too, both finishing 3-1. Celtic won the League Cup meeting after extra time when Callum McGregor and Callum Osmand both scored in extra time after James Tavernier cancelled out Johnnie Kenny's first-half opener. Rangers played over 70 minutes of the tie with 10 men after Thelo Aasgaard was sent off.
When they met at Celtic Park in January, it was the home side who took the lead through Yang Hyun-Jun before Youssef Chermiti scored twice and Mikey Moore made sure of the victory. The last league meeting finished 2-2, and we are predicting something similar this weekend, which would all but secure Hearts' first SPL title since 1960. Football betting sites are offering 14/5 on a draw or 11/1 on two apiece.
Celtic vs Rangers Prediction 1: Score Draw - 18/5 BetVictor
Celtic vs Rangers Prediction: Chermiti to Break Old Firm Record
Youssef Chermiti has only scored 12 times this season but four of them have come in two league matches against Celtic, with a brace in both. No player has ever scored five against their Old Firm rivals in one league season, but you would not bet against the Portuguese forward who has scored three in his last three. Betting apps have him at 12/1 to score another brace, or you can get 66/1 on him going one better and grabbing a second hat-trick of the season.
Celtic vs Rangers Prediction 2: Chermiti to Score - 39/20 BetMGM
Celtic vs Rangers Predicted Lineups
Celtic: Sinisalo; Ralston, Trusty, Scales, Tierney; McGregor, Engels; Forrest, Nygren, Hyun-Jun; Maeda
Rangers: Butland; Tavernier, Djiga, Fernandez, Sterling; Raskin, Chukwuani; Gassama, Aasgaard, Moore; Chermiti
