Celtic regret as Iheanacho nears Fenerbahce move

Former Celtic striker Kelechi Iheanacho could be set for a big-money move to Fenerbahce just months after leaving Parkhead for nothing. The Nigerian international has been a scoring sensation for Turkish second-tier side Bursaspor, bagging 16 goals in just 12 starts and breaking the record in Turkey for netting in consecutive games.

Free Exit After Double-Winning Season

Iheanacho left Celtic Park after playing a big role in helping the club to an unexpected league and Scottish Cup double, but could not agree terms on a new deal and departed the Scottish champions. He joined Bursaspor as a free agent last summer.

President Hints at January Sale

Now he could be set for a January move to Istanbul giants Fenerbahce, after Bursaspor president Enes Celik admitted they could sell the 30-year-old former Leicester City and Sevilla hitman.

Celik said: "Kelechi Iheanacho is a player who scores goals even when there appears to be no scoring opportunity.

"I want him to stay with the team more than anyone.

"But there might be some absurd figures involved from clubs.

"If there are, then we, as the management, will have to consider it.

"And ultimately, we set out to do what's right for the club.

"He does not want to leave us, but he knows how football works.

"It wouldn't be right to give a figure for how much he would cost, but it would have to be a figure that makes it worth it for us."
