Celta Vigo fans set record away support for Celtic clash

Celta Vigo will bring their largest away support for a European match in their history to Celtic Park on Thursday, with 3,000 fans travelling to Glasgow for the Europa League clash.

The Spanish side face Celtic in the third round of fixtures in the league phase of the competition. Both teams have lost their opening two matches without collecting a point, but that has not deterred Celta Vigo supporters from travelling in significant numbers.

Record-Breaking Ticket Sales

The club has sold 3,000 tickets for the game in Glasgow, surpassing the 2,500 supporters who travelled to Old Trafford for the Europa League semi-final against Manchester United nine years ago. It also exceeds the 2,900 fans who attended the Round of 16 defeat in Lyon last season.

This will be the club's biggest travelling support since their first-ever away European game, against Aberdeen at Pittodrie in 1971, where they lost home and away in a UEFA Cup tie.

Fans Prioritise Tickets Over Travel

Celta Vigo's director of infrastructure, Carlos Cao, said: "In Glasgow they don't understand why so many people from Vigo want to go to the game. For them, it's just another game, but it is a very special match for our supporters. Lots of our fans bought a ticket first, then worried about travel and a hotel later!"
