Arsenal handed Ceadach O'Neill a first-team debut against Fleetwood Town in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, with the Northern Irish striker already capped four times at senior level.
O'Neill was spotted in first-team training ahead of the Fleetwood game and then named in the starting lineup at Highbury Stadium. He becomes the latest academy graduate to make his senior debut under Mikel Arteta, following Max Dowman, Myles Lewis-Skelly, and Ethan Nwaneri, who were all afforded competitive debuts in recent seasons.
Who is Ceadach O'Neill?
Ceadach O'Neill is a Northern Irish striker who will receive his first senior minutes for Arsenal against Fleetwood Town. He first earned headlines when he made his senior debut as a 15-year-old for Linfield in his native Northern Ireland in 2024. Shortly after his first minutes in men's football, Arsenal offered the forward a trial before promptly signing him.
In April 2025, O'Neill signed his first professional contract, shortly after becoming eligible for the first time after turning 17. The 18-year-old was named on the bench for FA Cup fixtures against Wigan and Southampton last season.
International commitment and style of play
Northern Ireland quickly moved to tie down O'Neill for the rest of his international career, with the striker pursued by the Republic of Ireland to switch allegiances. After two appearances in friendlies in the summer against Guinea and France, O'Neill became locked in following minutes off the bench against Georgia during the last international break.
Capable of leading the line or playing on the wing and even as an attacking midfielder, O'Neill is described as having plenty of pace while being able to deal with the physical demands of the men's game. With 16 goals in 41 appearances for the under 18s, O'Neill was moved up to the under 21s, where he has scored two goals in eight matches.
