Michael Carrick has expressed confidence that Manchester United are making progress towards Sir Jim Ratcliffe's goal of winning the Premier League by 2028. The interim manager stated the club is "definitely working towards" delivering the title, which would be their first since 2013.
The club's hierarchy, under Ratcliffe, has launched Mission 21 – a plan to secure United's 21st league championship in their 150th anniversary year. The first step involves returning to the Champions League, a target that appears within reach under Carrick's guidance.
Carrick, who won multiple titles as a player at Old Trafford, emphasised the need for a gradual approach. "You've got to take it step by step," he said. "We want to keep improving and moving up the table. It's exciting to have something to play for, but challenging for leagues requires a lot of work."
The former Middlesbrough boss acknowledged the difficulty of winning the Premier League but insisted the hunger remains. "We have been there in the past and we want to get there again," he added. "It's not straightforward, but we are hungry to do it."
Ratcliffe, who was recently seen at the Chinese Grand Prix, faces a decision on Carrick's long-term future as the interim manager's contract runs until the end of the season.
