Carrick ignores Man Utd players after Como defeat

Michael Carrick apologised to Manchester United's travelling supporters after a heavy defeat at Como, but then walked straight down the tunnel without acknowledging his players.

United were beaten in the swirling rain at the Giuseppe Sinigaglia Stadium, where the Champions League newcomers scored four goals. Nico Paz opened the scoring in the first half, and three more goals followed in the second period. Joshua Zirkzee netted late on for United, but it was too little, too late.

Carrick's gesture towards fans and players

Shortly after holding his hands up towards the away section, the United boss turned and headed straight for the tunnel, offering no acknowledgement or appreciation to his players. The result leaves United with just two wins from 11 matches this season.

The defeat adds to a difficult week for Carrick, who had already dealt with the fallout from Lisandro Martinez's comments on the club's recruitment.

Bruno Fernandes questions tactics

Bruno Fernandes also made a public statement after the match. Speaking to TNT Sports, he remarked: "It's a decision from the staff to not press man to man and sometimes leave space behind and try to get the ball... That (whether Carrick and the staff got their tactics wrong)'s on the manager and staff to see, not me."

Carrick's tenure continues to face mounting pressure as United struggle in the early part of the season.
