Michael Carrick has spoken publicly for the first time since Manchester United's hierarchy decided to give him more time as boss, admitting he has received no assurances about his position. The 45-year-old took training on Tuesday after the club resolved to keep him in charge following Sunday's defeat to Bournemouth.
No assurances needed
Asked whether the board had given him any guarantees over his future, Carrick said: "I don't need any assurances from anyone; I get the position and understand the responsibility and what comes with that. I don't need any assurances from anyone."
The defeat to Bournemouth had led to growing expectation that Carrick would be dismissed, but the club instead opted to give him more time to turn results around.
Focus on Chelsea
Speaking in his press conference to preview Saturday's game against Chelsea, Carrick reflected on the loss: "To be honest, disappointment from the game, from the result. It's clear from the way the game went."
He added: "Dealing with that was the main thing, looking at what we could have done better. Then getting back to training with the players and preparing for the next game against Chelsea."
More updates are expected as the story develops.
