Carragher: Carrick wants Man United exit but won't say it

Jamie Carragher has said that Manchester United manager Michael Carrick wants to be "put out of his misery" but will never admit it publicly. The 45-year-old has made a difficult start to the season, with United sitting 16th in the Premier League table after winning just one of their opening eight matches.

Carragher's Assessment of Carrick's Mindset

Speaking on the Overlap, Carragher said: "I think he can never say publicly, but I think Michael Carrick would want to PUT OUT of his misery." He added that Carrick faces the challenge of motivating players who "just aren't having you at all," noting that "those players know that Michael Carrick's not going to be there in two or three weeks. He knows it, they know it, everybody, we know it."

Saturday's match against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge could prove decisive for Carrick's future, unless United leave west London with a positive result. Sir Jim Ratcliffe is expected to attend the match in person, adding to the pressure on the manager.

Pressure on Club Leadership

Sources close to the club have indicated that Ratcliffe could also review the performances of technical director Jason Wilcox and CEO Omar Berrada, potentially making decisions on their positions.

Former United midfielder Nicky Butt has criticised the club's leadership structure, saying on the Good, the Bad and the Football podcast: "Listen, I'm going to point the finger at Jason, and it's not all about." He argued that Wilcox "is not the best of the best, and he's not got the experience of the football club," likening the current setup to having "L plates on their heads" and noting "there's too many learner drivers within that set-up."

The coming days will determine whether Carrick and the club's leadership can withstand the mounting scrutiny as United prepare for their crucial London fixture.
