Carabao Cup quarter-final draw: Newcastle await last eight rivals

Newcastle United will learn their Carabao Cup quarter-final opponents tonight, with the draw scheduled to take place before their fourth-round tie against Everton on Thursday.

Matthias Jaissle's side face the Toffees at the Hill Dickinson Stadium in the final match of the round, while the other fourth-round games conclude this evening. The draw for the last eight is set to get under way following the match between Liverpool and Chelsea at Anfield.

Shock result sets up the hat

This round has already produced a major upset, with League Two Fleetwood Town defeating Premier League champions Arsenal on penalties. Fleetwood, ranked 84 places below the Gunners in the football pyramid, took an unexpected lead through Aaron Loupalo-Bi in the 21st minute.

Viktor Gyokeres levelled for Mikel Arteta's side after the break, but Arsenal could not find a winner and were reduced to 10 men in the 86th minute when teenager Max Dowman was sent off. The tie went to penalties, where goalkeeper Jay Lynch saved Bruno Guimaraes' spot-kick as Fleetwood won 5-3 in the shootout.

Evening's fourth-round action

Five fourth-round ties take place tonight, involving 10 Premier League sides. Manchester City host Brighton at the Etihad Stadium, Bournemouth face Aston Villa, Fulham take on Crystal Palace, and Sunderland meet Brentford, with Liverpool hosting Chelsea at Anfield.

Manchester City are aiming to reach the quarter-final for the seventh time in the last 10 years, while Brighton have not reached the last eight since the 1978/79 season.
